Why Hyderabad as a Union Territory is not acceptable

It is easier said. It is not an easier compromise. It will be creating one other ulcer, to remove the cancerous one created 55 years ago. One should be a telanganite to understand the issue. Andhras are not known for keeping their words. Last 55 years of Telangana history is a testimony to it. It was the proverbial ‘Camel and the Tent’ story. In the end they want to have their own brand new capital and their share in the ‘UT’ too. There is no limit to their avarice.

Just to please these modern day ‘colonialists’ why telangana people should open their 400 year old heritage-city and their cultural ‘icon’ to whole of India. As their wont, again these andhras will be calling the shots, to make the life of native telanganites miserable in the city.


Chandigarh is a special case. The city was built in between the two divided states. As a matter of fact, the agreement on the ‘UT’ status of this city, is also out living its period. Hyderabad is more than 200 Kms from its Andhra border. The joint capital idea is not tenable. Making Hyderabad an ‘UT’ to make andhras to build their new capital sounds very absurd. It has not happened in case of creation of 14 earlier new states. More particularly in case of Madras.

Andhras when they broke away from Madras they have demanded, the whole of Madras for themselves. They did not get it. They could have had it as a joint capital, as it was just sitting on the border of the two states. In case of other new states no original capital was made an ‘UT’ either, to facilitate building a new capital. In case of Assam the original capital, Shillong went to Nagaland, the new state.

Assam had to build Dispur for itself. When the time tested precedents are like this, why should one make Hyderabad a ‘UT’ for the sake of these modern day ‘colonialists’. For outsiders it might appear as a reasonable compromise.

But it is not as simple as that. You are dealing with the centuries old history, ethos and the identity of a people. The experience of Telangana people in the hands of andhras in the last 55 years is very bitter. The loss of life of more than 1000 youth for emancipation from this ‘neo-colonial rule’ is a clear indicator of the feelings of the people of this region.


Making Hyderabad ‘UT’ is totally un warranted and will be an unprecedented move. If it is done so, it will be construed as a reward for the plunder of Telangana by andhras. Hyderabad city belongs to its native people, like madras, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata etc., not to the colonialists. Andhras can have an arrangement like in case of earlier divisions, till they build their capital. Centre can give all the packages which a new state is eligible. But, not any agreements where andhras can have the scope to play their dirty political games again.
