The pro-Telangana teachers, who have been participating in the general strike in support of the separate statehood demand, on Sunday said they would resume their duties, but also continue to campaign for the cause.

“We have given some relaxation to our fight for separate statehood. Keeping in view the future of students, we will attend to our duties. We are not worried about our salaries,” leaders of pro-Telangana teachers’ unions told reporters.

They said, they would soon announce the date about the resumption of duties.

The State Secondary Education Minister K Parthasarathi has earlier asserted that the government would take steps as per rules to see that the educational institutions resumed functioning.

Taking a tough stand on the issue, Primary Education Minister S Sailajanath also said that the government would take action as per rules to ensure that both government and private schools resumed functioning.

Protesting against the prolonged closure of educational institutions, parents associations here have been demanding that the schools and colleges be reopened in the interest of the students.

The parents also met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy last week, urging him to take steps towards the resumption of educational institutions.

The leader of Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS), which campaigns for categorisation of scheduled castes and for protection of interests of various other marginalised sections, M Krishna Madiga, held a protest here demanding that educational institutions be exempted from the ongoing general strike in the region in support of separate statehood demand.
