Union Government Preparing its final decision on Telangana

NEW DELHI: The next all-party meeting on Justice Srikrishna Committee report is likely to take place early next month.

The contentious Telangana issue came to the fore in the national capital on Friday with Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and, separately, when the Congress core committee met later in the evening.Copies of the Srikrishna report have been distributed among all the relevant political parties, and the all-party meeting is supposed to factor in their feedback.

However, it might not be such a smooth affair given that the last all-party meeting was boycotted by the TRS, TDP, and the BJP, complicating the script further.

The meeting was earlier slated for this month-end, but has been pushed back due to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram’s Davos trip. Besides, the various stakeholders in the Congress - elected representatives from the three regions of the State - have asked for more time to formulate their response.Kiran Kumar Reddy, who met the Prime Minister for the first time after the committee’s report was out, is said to have given him reactions of different sections to the report. Incidentally, he had not so much as opened his mouth at the last all-party meeting called by the Union Home Minister. Reddy also met Chidambaram and Law Minister Veerappa Moily, the Congress in-charge of AP affairs, separately.

His feedback came up for discussion at the Congress core committee meeting, which was attended among others by the PM, party president Sonia Gandhi and Pranab Mukherjee.

Late at night, Reddy also met Mukherjee and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee.Measures to help the flood-affected farmers of the State also figured in the meetings that Kiran had, especially in the one with the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister is understood to have assured the Chief Minister of all possible help in giving relief to the farmers.
