Commssioner A K Khan gives clean chit to Togadia
Hyderabad, November 17: Playing down the spate of communal incidents in the city in the last two weeks, city police commissioner A K Khan on Wednesday remarked: "Hyderabad is a big city...Such incidents do happen once in a while.
"At the same time, Khan, who was addressing mediapersons at the old commissioner's office at Purani Haveli said that the city police was trying to find out whether the Hindu Vahini activists who were arrested for attacking persons from the minority community carried out the assaults on their own or at the direction of their headquarters in Uttar Pradesh. The police will be opening communal rowdy-sheets against all those found involved in the communal violence.
Surveillance on Hindu Vahini and other similar fundamentalist organizations has been increased following the recent occurrences. Explaining the pattern of violence, he said that since the police had been alert in areas around Charminar and interior parts of the Old City, the assailants this time chose to carry out attacks in areas such as Malakpet, Kacheguda, Narayanguda, etc. which are not traditionally communally sensitive.
Given this approach of the communal forces, the police vigilance has been upped in many other localities which were not covered earlier. Before addressing the media, Khan held a meeting with all the inspectors in the South Zone. He later told press persons that since rumour mills are working overtime, he has decided to post two additional deputy commissioners, one each in South and West Zone, to monitor the situation round the clock.
The police would ensure that all shops, bars and restaurants are shut down by 11 pm. Strict checking and frisking would continue in these two zones as well as parts of East Zone.Giving a clean chit to VHP senior leader Praveen Togadia who visited the city soon after Eid Al-Adha on November 7, he said: "We have examined his speech. He did not say anything beyond the legal parameters."
